If you want to make the switch from Windows or macOS to Linux, then, depending on how you look at it, you're either in luck or quite unlucky (since you have to do a lot of research) because there are a plethora of options out there.

Some of the biggest names in the industry include Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, Arch Linux, however, do know that there are a lot of other excellent distributions out there, each one better than the other for specific purposes.

Clear Linux is one of the less popular Linux distributions, but that doesn't mean that it's not worth your attention - quite the contrary, actually.

According to its official website, Clear Linux OS is "an open-source, rolling-release Linux distribution optimized for performance and security, [...], designed for customization and manageability."

We agree that this description is a bit vague. Here's what you need to know about Clear Linux. It's designed by Intel, and it's specifically designed for users who are more interested in Linux's underpinnings rather than the desktop.

One of the biggest selling points of Clear Linux is that it is designed to maximize the performance of Intel platforms. Don't think, however, that it's bad when it's running on other platforms, as Clear Linux is one of the most lightweight and impressively optimized OSes out there.

There's a lot more to Clear Linux than meets the eye. It's a performance-oriented, heavily optimized OS tailored for Intel-based systems. It's the sort of OS that is aimed at power users who want to fully customize and configure their workstations.

It allows you to operate without any custom pre-configuration. Since it's a "stateless" OS, the system strictly separates the OS configuration, the per-system configuration, and the VT user data stored on the system. It runs in lockstep with upstream, meaning that Clear Linux is always running the latest version of the kernel and compilers.

Most other Linux distributions, especially the popular ones, have system updates that can reach the size of Clear Linux itself. Clear Linux packages usually contain only the changed portion, thus making them a lot smaller and easier to implement. Another great advantage of Clear Linux is the fact that it allows you to combine custom components with the rest of the OS without the need to recompile it all (with the help of its bespoke Mixer Tool).

You can choose over 4000 complete packages for customization. Speaking of packages, one of the main concerns when running an OS with relatively low popularity is software availability. Thankfully, with the help of Flatpaks, you can get all the software you need (Zoom, GNOME Boxes, Audacity, GIMP, LibreOffice, and so forth).

Clear Linux comes in various forms: Clear Linux Desktop, Clear Linux Server, and a wide range of containers (for extreme versatility, scalability, and improved security).

If you're running an Intel workstation, and you're not a big fan of other more popular Linux distributions, then Clear Linux might just be the best choice. It's secure, performance-oriented, very nicely optimized, manageable, and remarkably configurable.
