Keep an eye on your favorite stocks with the help of this well-designed GNOME Shell extension. #Stock Monitor #Stock Price #GNOME Shell Extension #Stock #Monitor #Price
Some GNOME Shell extensions are just so good and so comprehensive that it somewhat feels like they should have been included in the GNOME ecosystem by default.
This is definitely the case when it comes to Stocks Extension, a well-thought-out GNOME Shell extension that displays stock prices and quotes in the GNOME panel or top bar/panel.
Granted, it's not the most generally popular extension out there, but if you like keeping an eye on stocks and the whole market, then you'll definitely appreciate it.
Before anything else, it's worth noting that Stocks Extension supports Yahoo Finance and eastmony, and that data is cached for 10 seconds and refreshed automatically.
Multiple aspects make Stocks Extension such a great extension. The main reason why Stocks Extension is so good is that it provides you with a lot of freedom.
For instance, you can add any number of stocks in the extension's menu, and add a so-called "stock ticker" in the panel for an easier glance over the stock price (meaning that you don't need to open a menu to see the actual stock).
The extension is capable of cycling through various stocks, so you're also provided with the prices for each. What's actually neat is that the ticker speed is adjustable, and you can hand-pick the stocks that you want to have displayed.
There are other goodies as well. You can also choose between four layouts (for the panels). Each offers a different view of companies and their stocks. Of course, the "ticker" can be placed on the center, as well as the left and right side of the top bar.
Stocks Extension can be installed directly from the EGO website by following the provided instructions, or you could save yourself a fair bit of trouble and download Extension Manager.
To add stocks, go to Settings, press the "+" icon, and simply enter the related symbol/identifier (you can easily get them from the official Yahoo Finance and Eastmony webpages.
Stocks Extension brings a lot of conveniences when it comes to staying up-to-date with the stock market situations, and it does so in the most simple and user-friendly manner possible, just like a typical GNOME Shell extension should.
