Change the names of audio devices displayed in GNOME's Quick Settings Audio Panel with the help of this neat little extension. #Audio Device Renamer #Change Name Audio Device #Audio Device Name #GNOME #Name #Audio
Quick Settings Audio Devices Renamer is a small GNOME Shell extension that does, well, exactly what its name says it does - it allows you to rename audio devices in GNOME's Quick Settings Sound section.
Why? Well, let's imagine you have a lot of audio devices displayed in the Quick Settings Audio menu. Also, let's imagine all of them are displayed using super technical labels/names, or lengthy names that need to be truncated.
Quick Settings Audio Devices Renamer makes it easy for you to rename said audio devices to pretty much everything you want. Some good examples include "Super Expensive Headphones", "I-Have-an-USB-Speaker?," "My-Way-Too-Old-Soundcard", and "Bla-bla Audio Device."
All jokes aside, it's true that this extension is pretty niche, but it works like a charm.
Just like most GNOME Shell extensions, Quick Settings Audio Devices Renamer is very easy to use. You simply install the extension using Extension Manager (or from its official EGO page), access its Settings/Preferences section, and then edit the labels as you see fit. The extension also provides a super useful Reset button, in case you get bored of your overly funny custom labels.
Another interesting fact about Quick Settings Audio Devices Renamer is that it's the brainchild of Marcin Jahn, the same developer that gave us the just as useful Quick Settings Audio Devices Hider. As one can imagine, these two extensions go very well together.
Quick Settings Audio Devices Renamer is a plain GNOME Shell extension that does exactly what it says on the tin. Nothing more, nothing less.
