Hiri is a Linux email client specifically designed for the Microsoft email ecosystem.

At first glance, Hiri looks to be a very solid alternative to Microsoft Outlook. Dive a bit deeper, though, and you're bound to discover that's so much more than that.

Here's what you need to know about Hiri. It works with outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com, and msn.com. It can be installed on a wide range of Linux distros such as Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Arch Linux, Mint, Debian, and so forth.

The main selling point for Hiri is the fact that, as mentioned before, it's so much more than a simple email client. In fact, Hiri brings together all your emails, tasks, calendars, and contacts under a single roof, creating a more homogenous workspace.

Hiri also has a modern, stylish, and highly functional GUI. The Inbox section is pretty similar to sections from similar email apps (except for the folder bar, which is placed on the right side of the GUI), and there are plenty of customizations as well.

Users can choose between a few GUI themes, pick the desired GUI scaling, as well as control aspects such as desktop integrations and notifications.

Another noteworthy feature of Hiri is the Skills Center. This section allows you to install a few useful plugins (Action/FYI Split, Dashboard, Task List, Delegate Email, just to name a few) that are mainly designed to help you boost productivity.

While not groundbreaking, they can make a difference when it comes to saving time while dealing with large numbers of emails.

What's the most important thing when it comes to email clients? To make sending, managing, and receiving emails less of a pain than it already is for most people.

In this respect, Hiri does a very good job with its polished GUI, useful productivity-oriented plugins, and decent customization features. It's also competitively priced and, let's not forget it incorporates a to-do list and calendar options.

However, it's also important to know that Hiri only supports Microsoft-based email services. It doesn't have all the little options found in Outlook, and it also doesn't have mobile apps, which in today's world, can prove a bit of a problem.

What's new in Hiri 1.4.0.5:

  • Added a simple license management page for people who paid with a different email than the one they're using with Hiri.
  • Fixed: translation files missing from Linux builds (both the tarball and the snap).
