This War of Mine, a beautifully rendered 2D action game inspired by real-life events and developed by 11 bit studios, has been released on Steam for Linux.

The guys from 11 bit studios are mostly known for their tower defense games from the Anomaly series, but now they have ventured into a new genre.

By the looks of it, they have used the same engine, but the game has a different feel. Gamers will get to play as a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city, which is quite an interesting perspective.

"The pace of This War of Mine is imposed by the day and night cycle. During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, so you need to focus on maintaining your hideout: crafting, trading and taking care of your survivors. At night, take one of your civilians on a mission to scavenge through a set of unique locations for items that will help you stay alive," reads the official Steam synopsis.

The system requirements are also manageable and most players should be able to start it. Users will need at least Ubuntu 12.04, an Intel Core 2 Quad 2.7 Ghz or AMD Phenom II X4 3 Ghz processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a GeForce GTX 260 or Radeon HD 5770 video card.

More details about This War of Mine can be found on Steam.
