FOTONICA, a perpetual running game with a minimalistic design developed and published by Santa Ragione on Steam, has been released for the Linux platform.

This particular genre of perpetual first-person running games has received quite a few titles in past year, but FOTONICA is one of the most interesting of the bunch. It's a lot more complex than it lets on and users will have a lot of fun with it.

"FOTONICA is simple, but is not easy: it follows a tradition of arcade games that are easy to pick up and almost impossible to master. A multi-layered level design across eight different tracks, together with a procedural endless mode make for a game that is incredibly deep. Think you can outrun your friends? Try the split-screen versus challenges," reads the Steam synopsis.

The game was made available on all platforms at once and the system requirements for it are quite acceptable. In fact, they are more affordable than you would imagine. Users will need at least Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, a 2.0 GHz CPU (AMD or Intel), 2 GB of RAM, a 512 MB graphics card, and 250 MB of available HDD space.

The game is available with a 25% price cut that is scheduled to end on November 13.
