The game might get the same release date with all the other platforms

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the upcoming game in the Borderlands series developed by 2K Australia and Gearbox Software, will be getting a Linux version.

2K is a publisher that already has some games in its catalog that are working on Linux, but very few people hoped to see Borderlands arrive on the open source platform, especially because the Gearbox boss, Randy Pitchford, said that it was highly unlikely for that to happen.

In any case, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is now showing up in Steam database, so it's very likely that Linux will be a launch platform in October, when the release is planned. Players will get to use new character and complete new adventures, although this is a game built on the same engine used in Borderlands 2.

The information about the Linux version is taken from the Steam database, and by no means is it completely certain. The Steam Database is a record of data that describes every Steam game and subscription provided by Valve for the Steam service.

Usually, the new entries are first visible in the Steam Database before their official launch, but there is no indication about a release date.

More details about Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel can be found on the Steam website.
