    Just A Quick Note.

Was very impressed with the new open SUSE 12.2.

It installed great and for the first time in a Dell Computer my speakers worked out of the box and even better my wifi card worked out of the box.

But sadly SUSE is still a Dud still doesn't cut it and once again the designers and the developers have missed the boat.

Actually over all SuSE is lots better and its very close now where it can almost compete with both Windows and the currant reigning king of Linux:

    "UBUNTU!".....

But not yet and heres why.

For one the designers need to get off their duff and get the drivers preloaded for the DSL cards as most of America and the developed world use DSL to connect and believe me the day of the telephone modem is long gone so no DSL use in SUSE is a major and serious fault in SUSE.

And for the naysayers please dont tell me how to use nidiswrapper or lets say :ip config etc. etc.

Lets face some facts ok, Sure i can manually configure but this is 2012 not 1995 like so many develpers seem to be locked into and many people CANT manually configure ok nor should they have to.

Thats why linux aint ready to challenge Windows yet cause everything with Windows is plug and play and until Linux and SUSE can do that its not ready despite all the cute green lizards and all the other eyecandy posted its not ready yet.

Or put bluntly until your basic DSL works right out of the box SuSe simply isnt ready.

The other really big deal is:

    Software compatability!......

IT's very annoying to try and install an RPM only to find it wount install unless its a SUSE RPM.

Software NOT WORKING or PROGRAMS not working is one of the biggest reasons that people migrate to Linux in the first place period.

    Last gripe.

A LOT of people give up on Linux because nobody explains to them that they CANT get online because their SElinux automatically is on during the install so they cant connect even if Linux or SUSE recognizes the connection.

Now I DONT mean to bad mouth SUSE as I believe its a great OS with a lot of potentialbut it DOES have serious problems thgat do need to get fixed not just glossed over OK.

For in truth SUSE is coming a lot closer to where it can take Ubuntu on hands down but just not yet.

    It's still not ready.....

But take heart that most of the faults I've listed are also troublesome in FEDORA as well.

Tho its a bit easier to configure your cards and such if you really like to do:

    1995 style computing that is.

So keep on trying guys as your getting closer.

Myself Ill stick with Ubuntu for the plain reason when you do plug something in it just works period.

    Nuff Said.

Looks fantastic, installs easily, but is let down by fact that when I installed Clam and Dicom neither appear on the menu. Having 6 applications open it did slow to a crawl, as good as locked-up - had to hit the power button eventually. Even when it slowed to crawl it still did not crash unlike so many others, especially Fedora 16. Tried adding Tor repository address but software manager refused to accept it. Tor does not seem to be available in suse repositories.
