I have to say that i was very surprised at how well this distro performs. I keep testing alot of Linux versions, mainly to sample the new offerings and to see how well they actually perform on older Pentium computers. Admittedly the name ZevenOS is a little cheesy for such a brilliant production, It does makes up for that in achievement without a doubt. It's a really super fast OS (one of the very best available now in 2012)! Its performance on my older p4 2.6ghz with 880mb ram, boots within about 15-20 seconds!! Also, using it online is unbelievably smooth and fast, even with Firefox, which tends to be a bit slow on some of the major distros, breezes on ZevenOS! Package updates are simple and speedy. I hope the producers and users continue to actively get the word out out this winning OS. Am sure beginners and seasoned users will love using it on new or older machines.

I have to agree with N8Wulf to a certain degree. I was not and I am not able to minimize an application. I can reduce it to half size, that's all. I have the program running on a Packard Bell AMD Athlon X2 64. Generally I am quite happy with ZevenOS. It installed nicely, and, quite right; I had to right click too to get anything moving, there was't anything there, but now there is. I must say, I prefer other distros, particularly "moonOS". But overall I am quite happy with this one.

    Impressions based on LiveCD:
I booted with a Compaq Laptop which I've been using flawlessly with Ubuntu Ultimate Edition 2.5 up to 2.8. That said, I have to sadly say all is not well with this Ubuntu flavour.
If you are a First time user of Linux or Ubuntu, please don't form any opinions based on this Flavour
After bootup on my Laptop, no taskbar or Application launchers loaded, only the Desktop Icons.
I right Clicked and found Applications there, so I could still test the Distro... I suppose the Xfce Window Manager did not load properly, because all applications opened without any Borders, Max Min and Close buttons, nothing, just the barebone application. If you only want to Install and use, this can end up being daunting..
Then after opening Firefox I found out that my Keyboard was not install... So in short, something she is not quite right in this one.
For first time Linux Users I recommend the following path to full user experience:
Start with ZorinOS... It's nice, clean, very fast and works 100% out of the box
Want more, then go the Linux Mint path, absolutely brilliant Distro, has everything you would like to have plus more, very easily. This one will introduce you to the world of Linux that says... There's choices, just check the Application store to see what I mean.
Then when you are ready to have it ALL and even more, try out Ubuntu Ultimate Edition. Go for the newest one, obviously... It is just beautiful, amazing, complete and a blast to find out just what the Linux and OpenSource world can offer the Drones the moment you are willing to break out of your Pod and drink the Redpill
    Enjoy the ride Dorothy

Even on a 434MHz 'Celery', with 371Mb memory, this distro ran a Youtube video fairly smoothly. The inclusion of codecs and Flash is nice (unlike some *buntus, there isn't the Flash-crash bug). The grey is a bit Brutalist for my tastes, but other Xfce themes can be swapped in. A great distro for an old clunker, but it would absolutely SMOKE on a faster computer--great if you, say, edit big GIMP, or video files.

I ran ZevenOS Beta 5 i386 iso Live CD on a Amrel Rt 686 EX, 900 mhz cpu, 256 mb ram, 70 gig partition on 100 gig hardrive,no internal modem. I ran it as a live cd.It detected all my hardware and booted to Desktop then swithced to cyberghost. I minimised cyberghost so I could try to connect to internet with my Belkin F5D 7010 PCMCIA wireless card with realtek chipset. After inserting card it was detected and in Network manager I enabled wireless connection. Loading circle in taskbar shows it connecting and a moniter comes up with wireless connection strength 80%. This was suprising. A wireless connection without using Ndiswrapper or Madwifi. I checked connection properties and low and behold is a realtek driver now installed out of the box. Alas it is for PCI instead of PCMCIA but I give Zevon Kudo's for making the effort. Can't expect everything. The Desktop is easy to use and application windows open promptly. There is a bug for English users on the Favorite applications menu where the menu items like internet and such are listed in German instead of English. Open Firefox 3 or Epiphany and everything reverts back to English. ZevenOS has some downloads at the bottom of the page for bug fixes but the documentation descriptions are all in German so I am not sure if 1 of the bug fix downloads is for the geran language bug in the menu section. All in all though for a Beta release I was impressed by this distro despite the german language menu as a pretty slick distro for older Hardware.
