Such a beautiful distro ! But:

try as I may I cannot find a printer setup. Other than that - marvellous !!

SIMPLY AWESOME! I keep a copy of PORTEUS OS on CD and also a backed on a spare hard drive (which I never do with other LINUS OS). It is small and portable and lightening fast! Perhaps no other Linux distro out there boots as fast as PORTEUS - which does it in about 15-20 seconds!! On the desktop it is speedy, and even online it zips through pages! Unfortunately, it does not have the bells and whistles as most LINUX available today, but it is absolutely stable and fast! Though is may not be for new users, especially if you wish to install extra stuff on it, or wish to install it to the hard drive, which required a bit of know-how. But, it is meant as a portable distro, to use as it is packaged. It gets you online and enjoying the basics of a LINUX OS immediately. I highly recommend PORTEUS to users looking for an OS that is light and use-able on all sort of PCs that has limited RAM, slow processor, and a small hard drive.

I was looking for a modern, Linux OS to dual boot an old Win98 box and happened upon Porteus. The problem was the bootloader for Windows 98. I followed the basic installation instructions of the Lin'N'WinNewB Project and found an appropriate entry for menu.lst. It works great and boots fast! They have a good support forum but be sure to read up the user documentation first. I was so happy with it, I then installed it on another box with Windows XP, and now I only use Windows for scanning or things I can't do with Porteus.

I keep trying Linux... During about 8 years I have tried dozens of installs. AMAZINGLY i found one that would actually BOOT !!...repeatedly ... unbelievable...and it is Irish. A worldbeater this Porteus, it actually BOOTS !! there is not much functionality after that, just a humorous picture of a discarded guitar. But,'Tis Streets ahead of the current pack leader 'Mint' which I wasted days on, and which would never even boot. 'Well done' to whomever. Maybe one day there wd be a useful OS as an alternative to Windows. Here is a big step in the right direction !! a Giant step for mankind. Ireland Leads !!

I am desperately trying to get into setup to change the keyboard to German, but what is the password to change the password. Why asking for a user name when the user name is @root@ already. And what is the password / I am not a psychic.....Not supplying the password is definitely a turnoff!
