| Version: Pardus Linux 2008.2 | Reviewer: J.J.
Date: 08 Feb 2009, 12:17 GMT Overall rating: | GUI: Features: Ease of use: Value:

Excellent OS. I have been GNU Linux user from early 90-s, my first successful install of X-desktop was Slackware -Windows 3.1 was ruling then. I was amazed how environmentally friendly OS it was - my overclocked Pentium 75 to 90 ran cool when idling. For the comparison, MSDOS6.22 based Win3.1 draw continuously maximum power and I had to use extra cooler to handle that heat. Along these years I have followed the desktop GNU Linux progress and I have always waited for fully functional, easy to deploy preferably free opensource OS. I have tried all major desktop GNU Linux distros, I have bought SuSe 6.3 and 7.3, living with them and being happy and moving on by time to come. I have paid for LindowsOS/Linspire and was disappointed and felt betrayed by M.Robertson. Then I discovered Pardus 2007, and since then, this is my only GNU Linux desktop distro I use on my several desktops, notebooks, doing my everyday work, using it at home and on the go. I have converted some friends computers over to Pardus, totally ditching proprietary broken and clumsy OS, providing more security and freedom.
From time-to-time I make test installations of all new major distro releases to find out, what have they accomplished, what good they provide for desktop user, should I consider to move on from Pardus? And I return back to my beloved Pardus. I find more and more over-hyped features the big distros advertise have been included in Pardus for some time ago. I could live well with Gentoo or Slackware very happily, but I am tired of heavy customization need of them before they become usable for me. Simply said - Pardus fits my needs best.
I hope, every linux fan finds the very special best fit for themselves. Use it, love it, contribute back if you can and look around what others are doing. Love you, J.J. |
