I have been using Oracle VIrtualBox on a Linux (Debian) Gateway laptop for about 6 months. I installed Windows XP Pro in the VirtualBox and it has worked very well except for 1 program. Registration for Windows XP worked flawlessly, as did SP3 and other updates. Several of the programs I use would not work correctly in WINE, which is why I went to a virtual machine.
I can access the internet, my Linux hard drive and all my USB devices. Setup takes some tweaking and Guest Additions needed to be installed from Windows rather than in Linux.
Programs that did not run: Foxit PDF reader
Programs that I use: WordPerfect 8, Lotus123 Spreadsheet, Bible Explorer 4, Irfanview, Firefox browser, Nuance PDF reader, PDFfill editor, VideoLAN, Roots Magic, 7zip
Note that my modem and 5-1 card reader do not work in Linux, therefore they will not work in VirtualBox |
