    I've been using Mint for a year now and came fresh from vista world. This is the operating system! If Gnome is too bland for you simply spice it up...it's easy peasy, but the standard GUI cannot be faulted for being installed without the spice since this way it will work perfectly on any machine. Mint's features are nothing short of impressive out of the box and if there's something you're missing it's out there to download for free. It's even easier to use than Ubuntu, looks slicker out of the box and can be made into whatever you want it to be...all you have to do is enjoy!
