I downloaded the distro within 6 minutes. Although the download said "torrent", it wasn't. It was the ISO I downloaded. Using Brasero I burnt the distro onto a disk and loaded it into memory. No passwords to make you angry, it all went smoothly and without a hitch. It didn't take long either. Having arrived at the desktop it was pleasant to look at. The seeds of dandylions drifting across the screen to emphasize the "lite" version.
The usual icons were there: Computer, Install to hard-drive, trash and File-manager. A nice surprise were 4 small windows with: weather, news, calender and clock - all easily visible.
I checked out the store: 463 items were available, usually the important ones. Gnome Commander, Transmission, FireFox etc. although I was not able to spot Korganizer or Skype and only a "base" version of Libre Office seemed available. Abiword was there and also FOCUS WRITER. As far as printing goes I found a Print Manager and HP Device Manager.
With Chromium Web Browser I went onto the web and I had all intentions to write these lines from Linpus in memory. When typing my email address into the space above I noticed the different keyboard. I tried to rectify this but to no avail. I only found the English keyboard and three different Chinese keyboards - none of which were useful to my setup here. From this point of view the distro is of no use to me. If you have, however, an English or Chinese keyboard, this distro might be quite well worth a try....... |
