Linguas OS is lightweight and quick and looks nice, using the Fluxbox WM, but, may not be exactly intuitive for those coming from a windows background. All the same, adequate documentation is included. For those familiar with linux, and working in the translation industry, Linguas OS is an excellent choice. Based no PCLOS, it is stable and secure and comes with a long, long list of additional applications that can be added with a few clicks using the Synaptic package manager.
Above all, it is an excellent value for those in the translation industry, as it provides tools for managing all major file formats that translators work with every day, provides translation memory/CAT software compatible with industry standard proprietary tools, and, it costs absolutely nothing, thus, potentially saving the user thousands of dollars a year in software licensing costs. Likewise, its stability and imperviousness to windows viruses may vastly improve a user's productivity, as the translator can spend his/her time translating, and not dealing with viruses, intrusions and system crashes. |
