Spanish IT services company ElkarMedia S.L. reports (Spanish) that the municipality of Azpeitia in Spain’s Basque Country will be avoiding the maintenance costs involved in using Microsoft Office and saving up to €30,000-40,000 in 3-4 years since the company installed the free and open source LibreOffice office suite on the council’s computers.

Almost everyone and every reviews are missing the most powerfull part of LibreOffice: it's style functions. Styles are used in every module: not only in Writer but also in Calc, Draw, Impress... LibreOffice also offers hybrid pdf, a gem!

As every module sares about 90% of the code, mixing elements from one module to another is a breeze. Competition can't beat that!

Thanks a lot for the good work! It is really interesting to see how many fixes have been made since 3.6.0. Generally I recommend my friends to wait for X.X.3 since such releases are known to have only little issues.

BTW, the scrolling behaviour of LO with many figures in large documents is a real pleasure now.

I'm using both LibreOffice and OpenOffice with several computers and different OSs and releases, and the documents behave properly no matter what OS or release I'm using.

LO is turning out to be quite a champ!

Intel optimized code, Google Docs integrated seamlessly through extensions (just 2 clicks), Canonical, Red Hat, SUSE backed support, comes standard with popular Linux Distros like Ubuntu.

What more can one ask for?!?

Totally compatible with MS Office. Feature rich and has everything I will ever need for home and seeking work. Office Suite of choice.
GUI was much better then OpenOffice.

LibreOffice is good software. I first started using OpenOffice at home a few years ago, when I bought a computer that didn’t come with anything more exciting than Word Pad on it. I found OpenOffice to be similar to my earlier experiences with Microsoft office software, though I didn’t have any basis to do a big comparison. I just need the basic functionality, I don’t need it to be able to interface with anything from MS or any of that stuff. Plus, a short time after I started using OpenOffice, I started using GNU/Linux and I was pleased to find that OpenOffice was already installed in some distributions and available in others.

And, of course, once GNU/Linux distributions switched to LibreOffice, I started using that. I use it on both of my computers, which run GNU/Linux and I also use it in Windows on my desktop.

I like consistency, so it’s nice to have software that I can use in both Windows and GNU/Linux, plus it’s always been stable and really great for me. But, I’m admittedly not one of those users who needs the functions that separate the open source office suites from MS Office.

Given a choice between the free Microsoft Office Starter edition, and the free LibreOffice suite, I would go with the LibreOffice Suite. The combination of the LibreOffice Suite, and the Evolution software that comes installed on Ubuntu Linux provide a suitable equivalent to Microsoft Office for cost-conscious users.

I assume a higher number means a higher rating. I like LibreOffice very much and use it on both Win XP and Mepis Linux. It is very easy to print word processor and spreadsheet files as PDF for sharing with others as complete reports. The open source development team means I always have the latest version to use and does not require spending big bucks on the commercial products by MS. I have not used all the apps yet, but look forward to trying them out.

Windows users are puzzled by your lack of download options for an office suite compared to MS Office. Strangely, only Linux download sources were provided at the end of the profile for LO.

If I have overlooked the link for download of the Windows port of Linbre Office, please link me to it.

    Thanks.
