I am a software engineer, mostly on the Microsoft Windows side of the world. I’ve dabbled with Linux (Debian mostly) and at least understand how Linux/UNIX deal with disk devices, file systems and how they are mounted. I previously used “Trinity Rescue Kit” to do my Microsoft NT/2003 file system backups and restores, but I find Clonezilla much easier.
For any cloning tool, you really should have some basic understanding (high level) of disks, partitions, boot records, and how to use the Windows XP recovery console if you intend to use Clonezilla or any disk/partition back-up tool with the Microsoft operating systems.
That being said, I recently had a Windows XP Dell laptop that was configured with four separate partitions – the Dell diagnostic FAT partition, XP NTFS, and then Debian LINUX on the other two. I wanted to move all of them to a bigger SATA drive as I needed more space. Clonezilla did the job. |
