moonOS Main Edition For Linux

moonOS Main Edition is an open source and free desktop-oriented operating system derived from Ubuntu, the word’s most popular distribution of Linux, and built around the GNOME desktop environment. It aims to be low on resources and user-friendly.

The Main edition of the moonOS operating system comes as a Live DVD ISO image that contains software packages optimized only for the 32-bit (i386) instruction set architecture. The ISO image is hybrid, which means that you can write it on a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive in order to boot it from the BIOS of your computer.

The Live DVD boot menu is pretty standard, providing users with the ability to start the live system with normal configuration or in safe graphics mode, check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a DVD media), perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing OS from the local drive.

moonOS Main Edition uses GNOME Classic as the default desktop environment, which has been tweaked to look modern and attractive. It’s user-friendly and comprises of a dock (applications launcher) and a top panel, from where users can navigate the main menu and access system tray functions. Besides being an application launcher, the dock has been designed to act as a taskbar.
