Ubuntu Studio For Linux

Welcome to the Karmic Koala edition of Ubuntu Studio, an official Ubuntu flavor aimed at multimedia production. It is built around the lightweight GNOME 2 desktop environment and provides users with a great suite of audio, video and graphics applications.

Ubuntu Studio 9.10 was officially announced by Canonical on October 29, 2009 along with other Ubuntu flavors, and supported until April 30, 2011. As usual, it's available for download as installable only DVD ISO images, also known as Alternate DVDs, for the 32-bit and 64-bit hardware plarforms.

The boot loaded of the Alternate DVDs has not been changed from the previous version, still allowing the users to start the text-mode installer, rescue a broken operating system, boot an existing OS from the first drive, as well as to perform a system memory test and check the integrity of the disc.

Those of you who already installed previous releases of this operating system know that the text-mode installer will require the user to choose a language, country and keyboard layout, configure the network, choose a timezone, partition the disk, create a user, configure the package manager, choose software to install, and configure the clock.

It appears that users dig the traditional and lightweight graphical desktop environment of Ubuntu Studio, as it is still powered by GNOME, which provides them with a single panel located on the upper part of the screen to easily access preinstalled applications and interact with running programs.

In conclusion, Ubuntu Studio 9.10 proved to be such a great release that we don't even bother to ask Canonical for Live DVD editions. Keep in mind though, that this version is no longer supported and has been archived for historical purposes only.
