Welcome to the Maverick Meerkat edition of Ubuntu Server, a free and open source Linux operating system designed from the ground up to be used by anyone who wants to easily and quickly build a dedicated DNS, OpenSSH, LAMP, mail, print or file server with minimum effort. It is based on the latest stable technologies of the Debian GNU/Linux distribution.

The distribution is available for download as CD-size ISO images, designed for 64-bit and 32-bit hardware platforms. It was officially announced by Canonical on October 10, 2010 and supported until April 10, 2012.

This version comes with a standard boot loader, identical with the one found on the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS release and designed to allow you to install the distribution on a local drive, install the Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud component, boot an existing operating system from the first disk, rescue a broken OS, perform a memory test, and check the CD's integrity.

The text-mode installer is easy to use, requiring users to choose a language, location and keyboard layout, enter the hostname, set up the timezone, partition the disk, create a user, select and install software, and install the boot loader.

As mentioned, the product will allow you to install Ubuntu as a dedicated DNS serer, LAMP server, Mail server, OpenSSH server, Print server, Samba file server, Tomcat Java server, or Virtual Machine host. You can install a PostgreSQL database server.

In conclusion, Ubuntu Server 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) provides users with the same great software components that were available in the previous release of the product. Keep in mind though, that this version is no longer maintained and has been archived for historical purposes only.
