An Ubuntu-based Live CD distribution focused on Windows malicious software removal. #Remove malware #Linux distribution #Ubuntu MRT #Ubuntu #Windows #Malware
Ubuntu Malware Removal Toolkit is a free, open source and Ubuntu-based distribution of Linux that uses an extra layer of malware removal software on top of a stable Ubuntu base, the world’s most popular free operating system.
This unofficial Ubuntu remix is available for download as a dual-arch Live CD of approximately 600MB in size, suitable for either 32-bit (i386) or 64-bit (x86_64) computers.
Unfortunately, the boot screen is very basic. You must press the Enter key to boot the live system with default boot options and drivers, as well as to type the “xforcevesa” option to boot the live environment in safe graphics mode, in case the default boot option doesn’t recognizes your graphics card.
You can type the “install” button to start the installer directly, enter “check” if you want to verify the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a CD disc), type “memtest” to run a memory test, and type “hd” to boot from the local drive.
Of course, you must ignore the quotes when typing any of the aforementioned boot options and it is a must to press Enter after each boot option. However, most users should just press the Enter key.
The graphical session is powered by GNOME Classic, which comprises of a top panel for quick access to pre-installed applications and system settings, as well as bottom panel for easy interaction with opened programs. We call this a two-panel layout.
As mentioned, the main emphasis of Ubuntu Malware Removal Toolkit is on removing malware from infected systems. It includes a wide range of malware tools, which have been organized in categories on the Malware Tools menu entry.
Summing up, Ubuntu Malware Removal Toolkit is a handy distribution of Linux that can be used by anyone who want to remove malware from infected operating systems, especially Windows workstations.
