QuiteRSS is an open source RSS reader application for Linux, FreeBSD and Microsoft Windows operating systems. It provides users with a familiar graphical user interface (GUI) that resembles the look of the uTorrent BitTorrent client or uGet download manager applications. It’s comprised of an embedded browser based on the well known Webkit engine, supports multiple languages, and it’s described by its author as fast and comfortable for the end-user.

Among some of its major highlights, we can mention automatic update of feeds, user filters, proxy support, visible and audio notifications, keyboard shortcuts, as well as the ability to import and export OPML feeds.

Users are able to sort their entire list of news and feeds by new, starred, unread, and deleted, enable or disable images in news previews, as well as to quickly hide the feed tree for a more comfortable reading.

The application also supports proxy configuration (manual or automatic), system tray icon (on minimize, close and at start), automatic cleanup of feeds on application exit using criterias, click to flash functionality, multiple tabbed feeds, quick search in browser, and quick news filter.

Another interesting feature is the ability to block ads from feeds, thanks to its built-in Adblock functionality. The software can display new or unread news counter on the tray icon, which supports any modern desktop environment.

The program is distributed as a source archive, binary packages for FreeBSD, OS/2 and Microsoft Windows operating systems. For Linux, the developers provide users with detailed installation instructions for major Linux distributions at http://quiterss.org/quiterss-for-other-os.

QuiteRSS is a feature-rich and unique RSS aggregator application. It can import feeds simply by searching the feed URL of a given website, providing the same user interface on all platforms. We recommended to all Linux users who want to try a new and modern feed-reading experience.
