Kubuntu For Linux

Welcome to the Lucid Lynx edition of Kubuntu, which is also the third LTS (Long Term Support) release of this Ubuntu-based operating system, designed for home users and small offices. It replaces the traditional GNOME desktop environment with the more modern and familiar KDE (K Desktop Environment).

Kubuntu 10.04 LTS was officially announced by Canonical on April 29, 2010 and supported with selected software updates and security patches for three years, until May 9, 2013. It is distributed as Alternate and Desktop CDs that support the 64-bit and 32-bit instruction set architectures.

The boot menu of the Desktop CD has been revamped with the new Kubuntu logo, a blue background image and white/black text for the boot entries. It still allows the user to try the operating system without installing, check the disc for defects (only if using a CD media), perform a memory diagnostic test, boot an existing OS from the first disk, and install the distro without testing it (not recommended).

We have no idea why, but the the KDE desktop environment looks even more beautiful in this new release of the Kubuntu Linux operating system, despite the fact that is uses pretty much the same artwork and layout as in the previous version.

Default applications include the Kopete instant messenger, Amarok audio player, Kontact personal information manager, Konqueror web browser, Dolphin file manager, OpenOffice.org office suite, KTorrent torrent downloader, Quassel IRC client, Dragon Player video player, and K3b CD/DVD burning software.

Kubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) is the best release, so far, of this free and open source operating system designed for small offices and home users. It is no longer supported and archived for historical purposes only.
