Kubuntu For Linux

Welcome to the Intrepid Ibex edition of Kubuntu, an open source and free software project that uses the latest Ubuntu and KDE technologies to deliver a powerful, modern and beautiful operating system suitable for high-end machines.

Kubuntu 8.10 operating system was announced by Canonical on October 30, 2008 along with various other Ubuntu flavors, and supported until April 30, 2010. It can be downloaded as Desktop CD and Alternate CD ISO images for the 64-bit and 32-bit instruction set architectures.

While the boot menu of the Desktop CD allows the user to try the operating system without any change to his or her computer, check the disc for defects (only if using a CD media), start an existing OS from the first disk, as well as to perform a memory diagnostic test, the boot loader of the Alternate CD edition will enable users to install the distribution in text-mode.

The beautiful KDE 4 project is now used as the default desktop environment in Kubuntu 8.10, providing users with a modern, darkish and productive graphical session that uses widgets on the desktop and a single taskbar from where the user can easily and quickly launch applications and interact with opened programs.

Default applications include the Konqueror web browser, Kopete instant messenger, KMail email client, KTorrent torrent downloader, Konversation IRC client, Amarok audio player, digiKam photo management program, OpenOffice.prg office suite, and many other KDE-specific utilities.

Kubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) proves once again that it is a very stable and reliable operating system, despite the fact that it now features the resource hungry KDE 4 desktop environment. However, it is no longer supported and has been archived for historical reference purposes only.
