  • system upgraded from Debian testing “Bullseye” repos as of November 10, 2019
  • Calamares installer 3.2.16 + kpmcore 4
  • Linux kernel 5.2.17 as default (5.3.10 & 5.4-rc7 in Sparky unstable repos)
  • obmenu-generator removed from Rescue edition (due to Perl updated up to 5.30 and libgtk2-perl removed); it has been replaced by sparky-obmenu-rescue
  • added Sid repos back (not active) – use it on your own risk
  • Yad updated up to 5.0, but it is available from Sparky unstable repos now

New in SparkyLinux Rescue 5.7 Rolling (Mar 19, 2019)

  • system updated from Debian testing repos as of March 4, 2019
  • Linux kernel 4.19.16 (5.0 & 4.20.14 available at Sparky “unstable” repos)
  • the Calamares installer updated up to version 3.2.4
  • user’s folders such as: Documents, Music, Download, etc. are automatically created now in your home dir in Openbox and other, small window managers
  • Yad reinstalled to the default Debian’s version + removed old libs (html mode doesn’t work now)
  • Linux kernel has been reverted to Debian’s version from testing repos (amd64 / 686 non-pae) as default
  • the system identifies itself with a release number 5.7 now instead of a line number 5
  • APTus enlarged off two new sections of applications: AudioTool & VideoTool
  • a few small fixes

  • system updated from Debian testing repos as of November 05, 2018
  • fixed menu entry of DDRescue-GUI and Gparted
  • added new tools: vim, chntpw, sparky-aptus
  • reconfigured sparky-remsu tool: changed name of sparky-xterm-exec to sparky-remsu-exec, so it had to be changed in obmenu-generator too. The old name could confuse users so the new one is much proper. The sparky-remsu-exec tool lets run non-sparky tools with root privileges.

  • Thunar daemon is deactiveted in live session, due to problem of automounting new partitions created by Calamares

  • the Calamares and Advanced Installer remove Cryptsetup packages now (Calamares removes the packages if the system is not installed on an encrypted disk/partition)

  • Removing Non-Free and Restricted packages which are pre-installed in the system
  • Installation of missing language packages
  • Every option is placed in a separated tab
  • Sparky-Tray – our small app which is loaded to the system’s panel tray and gives quick access to APTus, Synaptic, repository list editor and root terminal has been updated up to version 0.1.2. It lets you edit all repo lists due to changes occurred in the repository list

New in SparkyLinux Rescue 3.3.1 (Mar 17, 2014)

  • Due to a small bug in the base system (one library missing), the ‘new’ live installer does not want to launch in the Razor-Qt Edition of Sparky 3.3.
  • The new iso image of SparkyLinux 3.3.1 Razor-Qt is free of the bug so the new installer works fine.
  • Anyway there is the ‘old’ installer in the live system too so it can be used instead of the new one.

New in SparkyLinux Rescue 3.3 (Mar 7, 2014)

  • New iso images of SparkyLinux provide a ton of updates, some changes and system improvements, such as:
  • Linux kernel 3.12
  • all packages upgraded from Debian testing repositories as of 2014/03/04
  • new installer forked from LMDE/SolydXK (no support for EFI yet)
  • new wallpaper ‘Strange Nature’ by Sakasa + artwork of Grub, Plymouth and installer based on the wallpaper
  • sudo is active as default after installation
  • SparkyLinux default repository has been changed
  • new, refreshed logo
  • The ‘old’ installer is still available in the live system and it is recommended for ‘old’ machines. It can be run in text mode, by the command: sudo sparkylinux-installer or in graphical mode: sudo sparkylinux-installer gui.
  • The ‘old’ installer features two changes as well:
  • partition detection way has been changed after the disk partitioning process is ended
  • added new option ‘nogrub’ which lets you NOT install bootloader Grub.
  • Added new applications and tools:
  • Boot-repair – a simple tool to repair frequent boot issues
  • Truecrypt – a source-available freeware application used for on-the-fly disks and partitions encryption
  • Plymouth + sparky-plymouth-theme
  • uGet + Aria2 as the default download manager for Iceweasel, via FlashGot plugin
  • Osmo is out – replaced by Iceowl plugin for Icedove mail client
  • Hotot-Gtk microblogging client
