Saline OS Changelog

What's new in Saline OS 1.5

Oct 27, 2011
  • LibreOffice is now the default office suite.
  • Network Manager has now replaced WICD by default.
  • The Remastersys grub restore utility has been replaced by grub-doctor, which was written almost entirely from scratch. Grub doctor can target the MBR of any flash drive, solid state disk or hard drive attached to the machine and is far more flexible and friendly.
  • Installer has been patched to only offer to start Magix if you have an ATI or Nvidia card.
  • AutoUpdate will now use the GTK graphical interface for configuring packages if they require user input.
  • New wrapper for aptitude that will use the GTK graphical interface for configuring packages. Script is called saline-get and accepts all the same input that aptitude does, for example saline-get install package-name .
  • Remastersys was patched to remove errors you may or may not have noticed while making backup disks. These errors weren't important, but were pretty ugly.
  • Updated the user manual, including reformatting the German manual back to match the Spanish and English manuals.
  • All security updates installed on the images.
  • The installer will now check if you are running in safe mode and preserve the safe settings on the installed system.
  • Clean will now clear the cache of Iceweasel, Firefox and Google Chrome. It will also clear the History on Google Chrome, support for clearing history in Firefox and Iceweasel is not currently included but might be added in the future. It is recommended if you use Firefox or Iceweasel to set it to not remember history if desired.

New in Saline OS 1.3 (Mar 21, 2011)

  • Now has the ability to change the system language in the installer.
  • Ability to set keyboard layout in the installer.
  • Optionally you can now download language packs for Icedove, OpenOffice.org and MySpell by hitting yes on a dialog in the installer. This requires a working internet connection and changing the system language.
  • Will download a translated user manual into your language and place it on the desktop, assuming your language is Spanish as that is the only translation done at this time. Translation courtesy of Richard Holt.
  • All updates installed from the Debian security repository since the building of 1.2
  • Several small revisions and additions to the user manual. Most notably small section about setting the language.
  • Disabled Remastersys repository by default.
  • Discontinued the shell CD image. An overwhelming majority of people ignored its existence and used the DVD images.

New in Saline OS 1.0 (Jan 20, 2011)

  • I am proud to announce the immediate availability of the first Saline OS stable release a fast and full featured operating system using Xfce as the graphical desktop environment. Debian Squeeze is now in deep freeze making it stable enough for everyday use on desktop, laptop and netbook computers. Saline OS 1.0 will follow Debian Squeeze's Stable branch and receive automatic updates from the official Debian backports repositories until the subsequent releases of Saline OS 2.0 and Debian 7.0 Wheezy. I would like to take this time to thank Debian for being the best base anyone could ever ask for, Tony Brijeski for creating the Remastersys project, the developers of sgfxi for allowing easy installation of proprietary graphics drivers and kr0k3tt for helping with the Saline OS website.
