New in PC/OS 2009.3 (Aug 11, 2009)

  • PC/OS 2009.3 has been released for the general public. This release fixes many of the hardware issues that users had with PC/OS 2009v2 series. With this release we went ahead and and installed all updates so all security updates since PC/OS Maintenance Pack 3 have been applied. The changes to PC/OS 2009.3 application wise are common across all releases except XFCE 4.6 was not included in WebStation due to some issues that are being explored right now on some models of netbooks.

  • A few changes to the core lineup. The only two public releases are PC/OS OpenWorkstation and PC/OS WebStation. WebStation is a CD ISO so recyclers can use it, netbook users can use it and even those who want a light desktop can use it. OpenDesktop is still produced and is available upon request from recyclers. Unlike other Web 2.0 centric distributions we still have many local apps for core fuctionality, client based audio, video and IM are just examples of that. You can use Synaptic and install applications that you would like to.

New in PC/OS 2009v2a (Mar 10, 2009)

  • This release fixes many of the application stability issues that users had with PC/OS 2009v2. With this release we went ahead and and installed all updates, so all security updates since PC/OS 2009v2 have been applied. The changes to PC/OS 2009v2a applications are common across all releases: Asunder 1.6.2, Audacity 1.3.7, Brasero 0.8.4, GIMP 2.6.5, Gufw 0.20.7, Pidgin 2.5.5, Murrine Engine 0.60.1 SVN143, WINE 1.1.16, Opera 9.64. The OpenWorkstation no longer has the Qt designer application or Qt developer tools, it now includes the Qt SDK with Qt Creator 1.0.

New in PC/OS 2009v2 (Feb 27, 2009)

  • The new release also introduces the new PC/OS WebStation 1.0. PC/OS OpenDesktop 2009v2 and PC/OS OpenWorkstation 2009v2 have been fully tested and are ready for broad consumer adoption. Changes include a slightly tweaked user interface and updated packages, and all important security updates. Some of the updated packages are Opera 9.63, Skype 2.0 and VLC 0.9.8.

New in PC/OS 2009 (Nov 20, 2008)

  • The new release follows PC/OS OpenCore 1.0. PC/OS OpenDesktop 2009 and PC/OS OpenWorkstation 2009 have been fully tested and are ready for broad consumer adoption. This release updates the PC/OS 2008 line of products. Some of the changes include a newly laid-out user interface and updated packages, and all important security updates applied. Some of the updated packages are as follows: Firefox 3.0, AbiWord 2.6.4, GIMP 2.6, Pidgin 2.5, Skype 2.0, VLC 0.9.5, OpenOffice.org 3.0, Eclipse, Qt Designer, Songbird 0.7, Wammu, Mobile Phone Manager, TrueCrypt.

New in PC/OS 2008v2 (Aug 31, 2008)

  • We are proud to announce the general availability of PC/OS 2008v2. This update brings to PC/OS all the bug fixes and distribution updates for Ubuntu 8.04.1, as well as separate application updates for some of the installed packages. Some of the highlights of the client release are: Linux kernel 2.6.24; Flock browser replaces Firefox; MPlayer and GNOME MPlayer replace Movie Player; Audacious and gtkpod replace Rhythmbox; Screenlets 1.4 are now included; for dial-up users GNOME PPP is included. We have also included Picasa for photo management and Google Gears for offline access to Google Applications.
