GamCat Changelog

What's new in GamCat 1.0.8

Mar 25, 2013
  • Version 1.0.8 is a bugfix for 1.0.7 (MP3 tab crash).

New in GamCat 1.0.7 (Feb 8, 2013)

  • Fixes a critical issue with catalog managing interface, and repairs the database which was corrupted due to the error.
  • Added an option to pass the item's name on Catalog tab directly to the Search box.

New in GamCat 1.0.6 (Jan 7, 2013)

  • Added a new set of tools for database managing
  • The export/import of single volumes has been replaced with the new tools
  • The file format .sqg has been dropped in favor of .tar.gz and .sqgx for the protected files
  • New abilities to split the database into two parts, to create new database from selection or to remove multiple volumes at once. It is also possible to import volumes and merge with the existing ones.
  • The Search tool's input text box has been replaced with a combobox which remembers the search history of a session.
  • Fixed a lot of errors, the biggest was a very old one, which did corrupt the calculation of volume's size. This version contains a script which restores the correct values at first startup.

New in GamCat 1.0.5 (Dec 6, 2012)

  • The version 1.0.5 is not compatible with versions prior to 1.0.2. If you use older versions, please do a step-by-step upgrade (installing one after another.)

New in GamCat 1.0.4 (Nov 28, 2012)

  • The MP3 playback has been moved from gb.sdl.sound to gb.media library, thus now the GamCat uses gstreamer as backend for music playback. Hopefully that solved the long standing issue with RPM based distributions.
  • The MP3 player's timeline slider can be used for jumping inside a song
  • The files found on HDD can be opened in default application or in the containing folder
  • Added Volume and Path as sorting option at search
  • Fixed SQL issue with PowerQuery
  • Many improvements in GUI and bug fixes.

New in GamCat 1.0.3 (Jul 30, 2012)

  • Added possibility to lock the database and program with password
  • Moved the library usage from mp3info to mediainfo
  • Added option to save database with or without password protection using zip and unzip
  • Added option to include timestamp on video's thumbnails
  • Added option to create montage for a video's thumbnails during "Copy the thumbnails" operation.
  • Added option to remember the last database file used
  • Added option to use any image thumbnails as volume's icon
  • Added a line corresponding to album containing the specific song in Songbook
  • Added option to find the songs with missing lyrics in current songlist
  • Some bugfixes and UI improvements
  • GamCat doesn't use mp3info anymore. It has been completely replaced by mediainfo library.
  • The earlier saved .sqg files are not compatible with the new version. It is due to move from .tar.gz format for this version to .zip, because of the new feature of passwords. They can be manually converted by extracting them, and compressing to .zip archives, and renaming to .sqg extension.

New in GamCat 1.0.2 (Apr 28, 2012)

  • Added option to cancel scanning
  • Added option to scan .cab, .7z and .lzh archives
  • Added option to set volume's custom icons

  • compare two volumes
  • make deep analysis of a volume
  • check the scanned HDD folders for changes
  • Many bugs have been fixed.

New in GamCat 1.0 (Mar 8, 2012)

  • This is a complete redesign. The database structure has ben changed, so the first-run is also a transition process which can take a while. E.G for 170 volumes it took me around 10 minutes.
  • GamCat has now a clean code, with clean database construction, so it became much faster. It is 99.99% compatible with earlier releases. Rare losses can occur only with some thumbnails, and during the file copy process. This is because the previous versions weren't correctly designed.
  • File copy for Virtual Compilation is fixed after nearly two years of bugs.
  • The manuals are now included into the packages. Some features, especially the MP3 playback may not work on all platforms. The packages are created on Kubuntu 11.10.
  • As a new feature, you can scan a FTP server's /public_home folder too.
  • WhereIsIt import is stable and tested.
  • CdCat import uses the relatively stable version 1.2
  • ADC import replaced with Gwhere.
  • Practically everything is new. You can even add skins to GamCat on the Settings tab.

New in GamCat 0.0.56 (Oct 20, 2010)

  • Fixed tray icon behavior: now it changes the song's title upon change in playlist.
  • Disabled doubled addition of new MP3 songs to the database if the data is the same
  • Fixed 'updatedb' which didn't work. Now it works with kdesu or gksu.
  • Some visual improvements.
  • Fixed sorted by time added in Search tab.

New in GamCat 0.0.50 (Apr 1, 2010)

  • The program has been enriched with many a features, and the visual browsing of the volumes has been rewritten in order to increase the display speed.
  • The folders open now with double-clicks.
  • You can refresh the list of the mounted drives without restarting the app.
  • The volume names may start with numbers now, and also may have ',+,: characters.
  • If you intend to import catalogs from out of Windows you have to adjust your region code. The same stands for MP3 tags. It isn't finished totally, but it should work, if the id3v2 library is installed.
  • I'd express my special thanks to Hungarian Ubuntu community for their help in Windows filters.
  • The project goes community based from now, Norbert Szenográdi is a new crew member!
  • I'm planning to create a manual for GamCat, but it isn't finished yet, so be patient. In few weeks, it will be available to download directly from the program using the Firefox browser.

New in GamCat 0.0.49 (Feb 17, 2010)

  • A lot of things has been changed since former version. I've worked hardly on thumbnailing. First I've tried to store thumbnails inside a database, but it was very inefficient algorhythm, so I've dropped it and developed a different way of storing. They are stored in ~/.GamCat/thumbs/ folder. It's faster, although it really can take a while until the thumbs of a media get loaded. It uses imagemagick for this purposes. Of course, everything is optional! I've dropped the .ZIP format of database backups, and moved to tar.gz archives. They are more reliable, and are doing the task well. You can still use the older backups, but manually: if you extract the GamCat file into base folder and start the program, it will update it automatically. After the Lent, I'll be working on MP3 tag scanning and pre-search options.
  • I would like to express my special thanks to Gary Richardson, who helped me to clean errors of GamCat on Fedora, and also tested this release on Fedora 12.

New in GamCat 0.0.48 (Feb 3, 2010)

  • GamCat got new ability. You can generate detailed reports, and publish your catalog as a website to the internet. The look has been improved too. I finally fixed the problems with search filtration.

New in GamCat 0.0.46 (Jan 17, 2010)

  • This release enhances the visual search through the Catalog tab. It's more colorful now, and it's easier to find a certain file visually.

New in GamCat 0.0.45 (Jan 12, 2010)

  • Finally, you can have more separate database files for GamCat.In Knowledge Base you can find out how to handle them.

New in GamCat 0.0.44 (Dec 30, 2009)

  • Bugfixes around ISO image creation. I've added the missing label to a button.

New in GamCat 0.0.43 (Dec 25, 2009)

  • This is a finalized version for volume import/export. With the previous version you could export the content of the volume but without the comments, genre/category and rating. Now this is accomplished. I've redesigned the Arhive type selector. Now it works as an expander and you can find a package checker underneath this expander. The colors and buttons are redesigned.

New in GamCat 0.0.42 (Dec 19, 2009)

  • Finally, I found a version of Gambas2 which includes the database drivers for sqlite, so the dependencies are invoked at installation time. Still you have to install the sqlite package manually. I hope you'll enjoy this new release, 'cos I've been coding hard to make it!
  • Please, if you want to translate the program, download the translation file which is very easy to translate, since I've updated the file to the proper one. There are around 250 sentences to be translated into your language.

New in GamCat 0.0.41 (Dec 1, 2009)

  • The virtual Compilation tab is completely rewritten. It should be more stable and useful. It uses a complicated algorhythm, so some errors are still possible. I need your feedback.

New in GamCat 0.0.37 (Oct 12, 2009)

  • Final bugfix for search through categories.

New in GamCat 0.0.34 (Jun 23, 2009)

  • I've added some extra columns to a table so if you've already been using GamCat (prior to THIS release), please do the following steps:
  • Open terminal
  • Go to ~/.GamCat folder

  • type: Alter table zzz add timing Text Default('2009-01-01');
