  • Big Upgrade using the Bookworm base with backports, this version has already been beta tested and improved for 3 months.
  • MacBooks: Much improved support, featuring a very elegant boot selector.
  • RAM: Improved performance and resources usage especially in Live mode.
  • Crontab integration on desktop, which allows your system to enjoy features like automatic updates or hardware watchdogs without needing to re-login on your desktop.
  • BTRFS The filesystem has become more mature and usable, so now it is included as an option in the installer, featuring transparent compression. The installer is ready to pick it when needed.

  • Nvidia drivers: Lots of improvements have been included, such as support for Optimus cards (Intel + Nvidia GPU laptops), OpenCL, video rendering, switching drivers in Live mode, and a better installation process.

  • Bullseye base: a lot of work was done in the past months for the full integration and this is the first public release using it, which has already been pretty well beta tested behind the curtains, and a lot of improvements were made

  • Power-management will not shut down your computer if fstrim is running

  • Updated system to the last Debian Buster base
  • Reduced RAM resources usage
  • Build improvements: these new ISOs includes persistence + UEFI + SecureBoot all in a single build, we no longer require the special USB build to have only the persistence feature
  • Language and keyboard improvements and an own tool included
  • Thunar features: Admin mode fixed, the feature to set an image as wallpaper now works wih E16 too
  • Browsers updated, firefox is available now with the quantum features, netsurf is included back as an extremly light alternative, palemoon is also available optionally on the repositories

  • Popups: You won’t be annoyed anymore by the Hotkeys Document that appears in the desktop startup, since it is a very useful thing we moved it to the launcher bar of applications
  • Desktop: Disabled the screen off timeout and the asking for the presentation mode

  • System: thanks to lots of improvements in the installer you can free up to 3 GB of the installed system and make the memory usage lighter up to 100 MB only, with the full desktop running
  • User Manager: includes now autologin features and sudo configuration
  • Fonts: added a perfect selection of fonts for different purposes, also other ones for programming and small sizes, improved selection of international languages compatibility and removed unneeded ones
  • Desktop: improved gadgets distribution and compatibility, the disks gadget only shows the removable devices by default now

New in Elive 2.9.5 Beta (Jul 20, 2017)

  • Designs: Great improvements in the designs for the stable release! Overall cleanup, lots of transparent elements, logo animated at start, shadows 3d effect, clock design.
  • Unique Features: The borders has now 4 buttons instead of 3, and there’s a hidden one that appears if a window cannot be closed
  • Effects: The visual effects stability is improved specially in the Live mode and there’s a fix for the locked desktop when using it
  • Eltrans: Our translator tool has the counter for translated sentences fixed and there’s a fix in the grammar checker. Please be a translator before the stable release!
  • Extra: you can use ctrl+s in vim to save files now, tagbar feature also recognizes EDC source files which makes them very handy to browse elements!

New in Elive 2.9.0 Beta (Apr 21, 2017)

  • Persistence is now featured in Elive where you can save your personal files, configurations, passwords, extra software installed, etc. It includes unique features like guided setup, the option to encrypt your persistence partition, statistic of usage, automated cleanup of temporal files when the persistence partition is full, desktop settings saved in unique profiles per machine to improve the compatibility among different computers.
  • Netsurf as an ultra-light graphical web browser, a very good alternative for low resources.
  • Improvements: Automatic disabling of touchpad taps for one second while you are writing text
  • Bugs fixed: Thunar unmounting devices without show an error of device busy. Eltrans has the counter of translated sentences fixed. Installer bugfix in automated partitioning

  • Screenshots can be uploaded and shared again, now in our specific Elive servers
  • Designs: The amazing old dark theme Lucax is back and included by default, with the fonts for the menus fixed.
  • Nvidia graphic cards installation improved and some fixes for the ATI (fglrx) ones
  • Windows applications compatibility greatly improved by switching to a recent version of Wine
  • Geolocated automatic time configurations improved
  • Newer versions of: Libreoffice, darktable, cpu microcodes, git, printer configurations, wine
  • Improvements: Default audio volumes increased. Default messages and translations. Elive translator tool. Xterm default configuration and colors improved.
  • Elive Menu: A new menu of applications has been added for all the Elive specific things, and a submenu on it for Extra features where you can found helpers, installers, or anything extra that can improve even more your Elive system without the need to include it by default in the system. Right now you can found on it a guided installer for the SilverLight browser plugin
  • Installer: Fixed a bug in the automated partitioning, the /boot partitions are now more reliable in booting your system
  • Fixes: If your desktop is started with a wrong configuration of icons, which was a very rare case, now it is detected and fixed on the fly. Color in the shell for the console mode fixed.

  • This version includes bugfixes in the installer handling special cases and some improvements in the overall speed process. The desktop has now the clock by default included and there’s some improved configurations by default too. We still working on the packaging for the other architectures like 64bit and different distros to keep the updates and fixes more reliable in the future.

  • Lots of improvements and bugfixes in Enlightenment 17, more exactly 87 commits are backported
  • Shadows for the windows are much more improved giving a deeper and three dimensional feeling for the focused window as you can see here
  • Important bug fixed for computers that has a broken battery that will not shutdown anymore after to reach the desktop, on which the power management widget detected the remaining percentage to be zero and triggered then the shutdown

  • Chromium browser is much improved in default configurations, removing all the annoying first-configuration, includes a pre-installed plugin “adblock” to remove ads by default, if you click on email link it opens the gmail redactor, last used tabs are by default restored on startup, and it will never pop you again about translating websites from english by default (but you can enable them in the configurations)

  • Partitions: Better detection and listing of the partitions for the live mode and the installer. If you encounter any problem since this version of Elive, please report it!.
  • Raid: Now the fake-hardware (featured by the motherboard Bios) RAID disks are supported (thanks to the help and tests of watchwolf). A small help about RAID (software mode) is added in the installer describing how to install Elive on raid devices.
  • Macbooks: We have switched from Lilo to Grub, in the previous versions of Elive you saw that sometimes the system doesn't boot anymore after running the fine-tune step because of some problems with lilo. This is now solved by using grub.
  • Installer: The development is now all concentrated on the installer, with a large number of minor bugfixes and features.

  • Nvidia / Ati: When you upgrade the kernel package and modules, you will broke your nvidia/ati drivers except if you update/install/remove any requirement manually... this problem is solved since this version by holding ALL the kernel/driver packages (and GLX packages) in case that the user needs a nvidia/ati privative driver.
  • Accelerated boot: A bit more accelerated boot of the live system by sorting the files of the filesystem in the cdrom structure by their access order.

  • Reiser 4: The new optimized filesystem Reiser4 is available as a module of our kernel. Note: this module is only available as kernel module, not in the installer as choice, so use it at your own risk. For experimental usages.
  • Kernel Headers: The kernel headers have been pointed to a wrong build directory, thus the user did not have the possibility to build their own modules except if they pointed the symlink to the correct folder. This is now fixed for all future kernel headers.
  • Scite: Scite is again our default editor, it is also the preferred choice of our users.
  • Thunar: Previews of Flash videos.
  • Mplayer: Some changes that include a fix of an annoying popup message when using poor-driver audio cards, and some hotkeys added for the non-gui mode like: left-click = pause, double-right-click = fullscreen, and normalized audio set by default.
  • Autolaunchers: Removed old thunar autolaunchers system (you could re-enable it if you want) and we are back to our old system, this makes your Elive more light and featured, unfortunately this autolauncher system requires continuous maintenance.
  • Macbooks: Better touchpad sensitivity.
  • Installer: Fixed a bug verifying the integrity in computers that has a wrong clock-time set.
  • LVM: Detection, mount, accessible in Live mode, available in the installer (requires manual creation of LVM).
  • RAID: Detection, mount, accessible in Live mode, available in the installer (requires manual creation of RAID).
  • Keymaps: A bit of work in the keymaps of the keyboards such as for slovenian, swiss and canadian. If you see any problem with the keyboard / languages please report it to http://bugs.elivecd.org
  • Languages: If you are using an external booting system such as unetbootin, you can select the language from the boot now.

New in Elive 1.9.18 (Nov 27, 2008)

  • This version includes a greatly improved new kernel and a lot of upgraded packages.   • The Elive team is proud to announce the release of the development version 1.9.10. This version doesn't include Exalt (a network configuration tool) any more, but there is a new application in Elpanel. Ibar is replaced by Itask-ng - Elive now has a zooming bar similar to the one in Mac OS X. It also has another feature enabled by default - 'lock icons', which prevents the user from removing icons accidentally. Vim color scheme hacks - the default color theme of Elive has been hacked for better development and coding. PDF printer - it is now possible to create PDFs from a page, document, or anything just by selecting to print to a PDF file in the printer menu. Networks - this version includes a new application called net-connector for configuring WiFi and wired connections.
