CreBS Changelog

What's new in CreBS 0.9.7.0

Jun 30, 2010
  • Create Background Slideshow 0.9.7 speeds up getting to work on creating your new wallpaper slideshow by allowing the default duration and transition time to be specified in GConf. These along with eight other settings, including the directory first opened by the 'Add Images' dialog, can now altered to your own preferences. The maximum transition time has been increased as well, from one hour to a whole day, adding the new possibility of slow-fade all-day wallpapers to the many already available.
  • New translators helping out with the project have also enabled Create Background Slideshow to be used more easily on Czech and Spanish desktops. If you'd like to help the translation effort, please visit https://translations.launchpad.net/crebs and add what you can. New in CreBS 0.9.6.1 (Jun 24, 2010)

  • Added completed Ukrainian translation
  • Fixed bug in modularisation that kept the slideshow file constant
  • Added man page
  • Able to read and write non-trivial slideshow files
  • Uses .thumbnails cache for faster image import
  • Non-GUI appearances of the app name are always in English, with any translation in brackets

New in CreBS 0.9.6.0 (Jun 24, 2010)

  • Create Background Slideshow 0.9.6 adds images faster than ever by using cached thumbnails where possible. When it does have to generate new thumbnails, they are saved to the cache, speeding up future use (and helping the Nautilus file browser too). Even more slideshows can now be imported allowing almost any one to be edited and re-saved, and a man page has been included to provide complete documentation for the program.

New in CreBS 0.9.5.0 (Jun 21, 2010)

  • Create Background Slideshow 0.9.5 builds on the work of several new contributors to create localised versions in Welsh (Cymraeg), German (Deutsch), English, Italian (Italiano), Lithuanian (lietuvių), Romanian (română), Russian (русский), and Ukrainian (українська). The user interface has also been refined so that selecting an image causes the 'Selected Image' timings tab to move to the front, and when adding a group of new images, the first one will be selected.
  • In order to simplify the addition of new features, the source code has been modularised. Additionally, internationalisation has been continued to include the entire GUI and the command-line options. New in CreBS 0.9.4.0 (Jun 11, 2010)

  • Create Background Slideshow 0.9.4 further simplifies the user interface by splitting the options for the slideshow's defaults and the selected image between two separate tabs. This change eliminates a potential source of confusion for first-time users, while also avoiding the the display of repeated information when the selected image uses default settings, or when no image is selected at all.
  • Under the bonnet, 0.9.4 also paves the way for translations into localised versions of Create Background Slideshow, by internationalising all the text in the graphical user interface (GUI) using the GNU gettext system. New in CreBS 0.9.3.0 (Jun 8, 2010)

  • Create Background Slideshow 0.9.3 offers greater desktop integration, appearing in Nautilus's right-click menu as an "Open with Create Background Slideshow" option for JPEG, PNG, GIF, and SVG images, as well as XML files—the format used for slideshows—and combinations of those file types, making it even quicker to start creating your next wallpaper set.
  • In use, a file-overwrite warning will now prompt you if you try to create a second slideshow with the same filename, preventing accidental loss, while transitions can now be specified in tenths of a second.
  • A swathe of command-line options have also been added, adding configuration flexibility and usefulness as a script-driven tool. For example, to re-scan a folder and use all images as the wallpaper set, changing every hour, run:
  • crebs -gq -d 3600 -n "Slideshow Name" /path/to/folder/*
  • Adding a command like this to your login scripts will keep your wallpaper updated as you add images to the folder over time. And, with 14 options available, a whole lot more is now possible too—run crebs --help for details.
  • About Create Background Slideshow:―
  • The GNOME desktop is able to use a sequence of images for its background wallpaper, changing them automatically over time, but does not include an interface for specifying which images should constitute such a slideshow. Create Background Slideshow (CreBS) is a small Python/GTK application that provides such an interface, saving users from having to manually edit XML files.

New in CreBS 0.9.2.0 (Jun 4, 2010)

  • CreBS 0.9.2 improves the file adding process, now allowing images and saved slideshows to be added by dragging them from Nautilus and dropping them onto the Create Background Slideshow window. It also quietly ignores irrelevant files, permitting quick and dirty selections to be dragged in. If you do use the Add Images dialog, you'll find that it now remembers the last-used directory, saving time when you've missed an image from the original selection.
  • For users unable to install using the .deb package, a setup script has been added for installation, either to the /usr/local directory by default, or to any valid directory specified with the -p flag.

New in CreBS 0.9.1.0 (Jun 1, 2010)

  • Realignment of UI elements
  • Notification issued if wallpaper set successfully
  • Slideshows can be re-imported
