You can also setup the 4MLinux LAMP Server (Linux 4.14.39, Apache 2.4.33, MariaDB 10.2.14, PHP 5.6.36 and PHP 7.2.5). Perl 5.26.1, Python 2.7.14, and Python 3.6.4 are also available.
  • As always, a new major release comes with some new features: better handling of CA certificates (no need to accept them manually), full support for Zstandard data compression algorithm (4MLinux Backup Scripts), login screen can now be disabled (it's a response to user requests), GIMP 2.10 with full support for scanners and digital cameras, Python3 with Meson and Ninja (this is now, de facto, the main build system in GNOME/GTK+ ecosystem).
  • The default media player in 4MLinux is now mpv (with GNOME MPV). Other players (MPlayer, SMPlayer, xine and VLC) are available as downloadable extensions. Good news for modern computers: all these applications are now able to make use of hardware video acceleration (via VA-API and VDPAU). Good news for old computers: MPlayer, xine and VLC can play videos without X Window System (use Midnight Commander to select files to play).

  • The status of the 4MLinux 12.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Major modifications in the core of the system, which now includes the GNU C Library 2.21. Additionally, PAE support has been enabled in the Linux kernel. The most important new applications are: Asunder (CD-ripping program), aTunes (audio player), and Chrome (web browser). The net browsing software available in 4MLinux has been significantly improved.

  • This is a core system (about 5 MB in size) for the 4MLinux 12.0 series. The system includes: the Linux kernel 3.14.34, GNU C Library 2.21, and BusyBox 1.23.1. Additional firmware and drivers (including NVIDIA and AMD video drivers) can be downloaded from the 4MLinux website. All 4MLinux 12.0 applications have been compiled with GNU Compiler Collection 4.9.2 (x86/32-bit/SMP).

New in 4MLinux Core 11.1 (Mar 22, 2015)

  • The status of the 4MLinux 11.1 series has been changed to STABLE. The FLTK toolkit has been added to run TigerVNC and other software. Wine and FileZilla are now available as downloadable extensions (even in the basic version of 4MLinux). The MakeMKV package has been included in the drivers section of the 4MLinux LiveCD. After installing this package, it is possible to play (and rip) all kinds of DVD and Blu-ray discs.

New in 4MLinux Core 11.1 Beta (Feb 2, 2015)

  • This is a core system (about 5 MB in size) for the 4MLinux 11.1 series. The system includes: the Linux kernel 3.14.27, GNU C Library 2.20, and BusyBox 1.22.1. Additional firmware and drivers (including NVIDIA and AMD video drivers) can be downloaded from the 4MLinux website. All 4MLinux 11.1 applications have been compiled with GNU Compiler Collection 4.9.2 (x86/32-bit/SMP).

  • This version has the same features as 4MLinux 4.1 BETA with the additional possibility of a fully automatic upgrade to 4MLinux Allinone Edition.
  • There are two versions available to download, 4MLinux-4.1.iso (with a GUI which requires 256MB of RAM) and 4MLinux-4.1-installer.iso (with a TUI which requires 128MB of RAM).
  • Both versions can be installed to a hard disk (and later updated to 4MLinux Allinone Edition, if desired).
  • Automatic downloading and installing of some additional components (e.g., Opera 12.02 and LibreOffice 3.6.2) is also possible.

  • The main features are: maintenance (4MLinux Backup Scripts and Clam AntiVirus 0.97.6), multimedia (MPlayer SVN-r35119-4.6.2, FFmpeg Git-2012.08.26, and xine 1.2.2), mini-server (FTP, HTTP, SSH, and SFTP), and mystery (meaning small Linux games). X Window System is based on JWM 2.1.0 and the FOX toolkit 1.6.46 (with X File Explorer 1.33). Both Ethernet (including WiFi) and dial-up (including fast USB modems) networking are supported. Basic 3D acceleration (via X.Org with Mesa 8.04) can be enabled for many Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD video cards. The size of the 4MLinux ISO image is about 53 MB.
