xldump is an utility that will extract information from .xls files.
Formulas, values, range names, hyperlinks, formatting and VBA code are extracted. Just ask the owner of an .xls file to import and run xldump.bas in their .xls file and send you the resulting .dump file. Analyze or translate the dump with the xldump.py Python module.
A Python xldump.py module will come later, to help analyze or translate the
extracted information.
