clean 1.0.0

clean scripts removes a lot of cruft form the directory it is invoked in. Among the files it removes are:

TeX files: *.dvi, *.aux, *.lof, *.log, *.toc
C(++) files: *.o, *.a, *.so, *.la, *.lo
Editor backup files: *~

clean is easy to add other file types to the script.
