    Surftree description

Surftree project offers an applet that converts spreadsheet data to a tree.

Surftree project offers an applet that converts spreadsheet data to a tree.

Surftree is an applet that displays data organized in a spreadsheet as an expandable tree on a Web page.

The tree can be 9 levels deep and have over 65,000 nodes.

Each node can display up to 4 independent Web pages or JPG images.

It works with Java 1.0 and 1.1+ and in any Web server environment.

Here are some key features of "Surftree":

    · Works with data file in CSV (Comma Separated Variables) format.
    · Can directly save Excel and other spreadsheets in CSV format. This means it requires no programming to create the Surftree™ web page.
    · Can create CSV file from a database "on the fly".
    · Can use Excel macro to create CSV file.
    · Can directly create data file from text file.
    · Hierarchical index stored in multiple fields.
    · Can use Data >> Sort commands in Excel to organize Surftree™ hierarchy.
    · Data file can be in ZIP (compressed) format.
    · Generally reduces size of data file by 4-5x, greatly reducing loading time for large hierarchical trees.
    · Other powerful features
    · Up to 65,534 nodes and 9 levels of tree hierarchy.
    · Works well when indexing large collections of information, web pages, photos, etc.
    · Up to 4 target frames per node.
    · Makes it easy to implement photo albums, catalogs, etc.
    · Can specify GIFs and fonts on a row by row basis.
    · Easy customization of the navigation tree elements.
    · Small (22KB) applet.
    · Fast download.
    · Java 1.0+ version.
    · Works in all browsers back to Netscape 4.0 and IE 4.0. Probably also works in Netscape 3.x and IE 3.x but we have not been able to find any of these old browsers.
    · Java 1.1+ version.
    · Works in all browsers starting with Netscape 4.0 and IE 4.0. Also works with all browsers currently shipping including IE, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, etc.
    · Smaller download than Java 1.0 compatible version and has ability to work with ZIPped data files.
    · No dependencies on server-side technology.
    · Works with all server-side technologies including ASP, ASP.NET, CGI/Perl, Cold Fusion, plain HTML, Java, and PHP.
    · Works with all web servers including Apache and IIS.
    · Can develop using any website creation or content management tool.
