LXAppearance is an open source and free graphical application designed for GNU/Linux operating systems, to be used for switching desktop themes under the LXDE desktop environment.
Allows you to easily change your theme
With this handy tool, users who use the LXDE desktop environment will be able to choose their favorite GTK+ theme and icon theme, install new icon themes, choose their favorite font, as well as to change the style of the toolbar. All the changes can be viewed immediately, in real-time, on the preview area.
Easy to use GUI
The GUI (Graphical User Interface) follows somehow the GNOME HIG (Human Interface Guidelines), as it’s easy to use and straightforward. On the left side, you can see a sidebar that lists all the installed GTK+ themes, allowing you to select your favorite one, as well as your favorite icon theme, font and mouse cursor.
On the left side, which covers approximately 70 percent of the entire window, is the Preview area, where you can see the highlighted theme and interact with it, customizing its looks by selecting the right icon theme and font. When your done, press the “Apply” button.
Designed for LXDE
LXAppearance is developed especially for the LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) graphical interface, but it can be used on any other open-source desktop environment where the GTK+ toolkit exists.
Under the hood and availability
The program is written entirely in the C programming language and uses the GTK+ GUI toolkit for its graphical user interface. It is available for download on Softpedia or on its official website, as a universal sources archive, but it is usually distributed along with the LXDE desktop environment.
You can easily install it on many popular GNU/Linux distributions, using the pre-built binary package found on their default software repositories. Both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms are supported at this time.
