Gnome Package Finder is a GUI (graphical user interface) wrapper for apt-cache and apt-file commands. It allows quick search through debian packages database for package name, description or file name inside the package.
It shows common info about the package, its dependencies or list of files the package would install.
This utility is for Debian-based systems (Ubuntu) and its binary is compiled for GTK2.
Usage:
Type what you want to find in the "Search for package or file" field and press Enter or click Find.
After you have got the list of matching packages, select the package you wish to see info about and either:
press Enter
or double-click on it
or right-click and choose an option.
Keyboard shortcuts:
F4 - set focus to "Search for package or file" field
F5 - change "Installed only" state
F6 - change "In package names only" state
F7 - change "Files inside packages" state
F8 - change "Exact match" (for file names) state
F9 - set focus to found packages list
F10 - set focus to package info table
F11 - set focus to package description area (currently to this text)
Enter - when "Search for package or file" field focused - perform search
- when packages list focused - show selected package info
Esc or Alt+F4 - exit
