genstats creates statistics for any text file. The fields to be counted can be selected through a syntax similar to that of "cut". It is faster then regular scripting due to the use of hash tables.
Examples:
Generate a list of hostnames in /var/log/messages with the frequency of their occurrence.
cat /var/log/messages | genstats -f 4 -v
What's New in This Release:
· A "simple" mode was added. In this mode, only the count and string are output, making it easier to process with other tools.
