IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate Edition is a commercial, cross-platform, powerful and feature-rich graphical application implemented in Java and designed from the ground up to deliver an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for developers who want to create platform-independent applications in the Java programming language.
Features at a glance
The application is based on JVM (Java Virtual Machine), supports a wide range of technologies, including Hibernate, Spring and Java EE, supports polyglot development, it is fully compatible with most application servers, supporting debugging and deployment functionality, as well as powerful features like dependency structure matrix and duplicate code search.
In addition, the application comes with static code analysis support, i18n support for translating it into multiple languages, debugging and running functionality, XML support, VCS (Vendor Credentialing Service) database integration, J2EE (Java Platform 2 Enterprise Edition) support, J2ME (Java Platform 2 Micro Edition) support, complete Java SDK 1.5 support, and other integrated tools.
Under the hood, availability, pricing and supported OSes
This software project is written entirely in the Java programming language, distributed in two flavors, Ultimate Edition and Community Edition. While the former is distributed for free only as a 30-day trial, the latter is available for download for free, separately, on Softpedia as a source tarball. As expected, the Community Edition includes fewer functionality when compared with the Ultimate Edition.
Currently, the IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate Edition is fully compatible with all GNU/Linux distributions, as well as with the Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems, supporting 32-bit and 64-bit computer platforms. Pricing starts from 449 EUR (570 USD) for a new license and 269 EUR (343 USD) for an upgrade license. More details can be found on the project’s official website (see link below).
