hwinfo is an open source and free command-line software that can be used to detect your computer’s hardware components under the powerful SuSE and openSUSE Linux kernel-based operating systems.
The program has been engineered in such a way that it can collect and display information about many hardware components installed on your computer, including CPU, RAM, HDD, SSD, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, Floppy Drive, graphics card, partitions, network card, monitor, mouse, keyboard, sound card, modem, printer, web camera, scanner, usb, and BIOS.
Originally designed for the SuSE Enterprise Linux operating system, hwinfo has been ported to other modern GNU/Linux distributions, such as Debian, Arch Linux, Fedora, openSUSE or Ubuntu. It is compatible with computers supporting either of the 64-bit or 32-bit CPU architectures.
The software recognizes numerous hardware devices, which can be enabled using its command-line options (see the hwinfo --help command for details). Among these, we can mention BIOS, Bluetooth, Block, Bridge, Braille, Camera, Chip Card, CPU, CD-ROM, DSL, Disk, DVB, Floppy, Fingerprint, Framebuffer, Graphics Card, IDE, and ISDN devices.
The program detects Joystick, Monitor, Keyboard, Memory (RAM), PCI, Network, ZIP, Printer, SCSI, Sound, SMP, Mouse, WLAN, USB, TV, PPPoE, SYS, TAPE, Scanner, VBE, PCMCIA, Modem, ISAPNP, Hub, NetCard, as well as Partition.
