dpkglist.awk For Linux

dpkglist.awk is an open source and free command-line software implemented in AWK and designed from the offset to allow Debian and Ubuntu users to query installed packages on their operating systems.

Being engineered to be very fast and overly small, and thanks to its clean GNU awk source code, the dpkglist.awk utility requires no installation and it’s easily extendable,as well as scriptable.

To start using it, simply download the latest release from either Softpedia or the project’s website (see the homepage link below), save the archive on your computer (preferably your Home directory), and extract its contents using an archive manager tool.

Then, open a terminal emulator application, navigate to the location of the extracted archive files using the ‘cd’ command (e.g. cd /home/softpedia/dpkglist.awk) and run the ‘./dpkglist.awk’ command.

To view available command-line options and the usage message, run the ‘/.dpkglist.awk --help’ command in the terminal emulator. You will immediately learn how to use the program to query installed packages on your Debian/Ubuntu-based operating system.

Among these, we can mention the ability to specify packages, field separators, characters as bytes, traditional, copyright, debug options, sandbox, posix, bignum, gen-pot, as well as dump variables.

The software also includes a small Bash script that can be used for command completion. The utility can only be used on Debian-based Linux operating systems, such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint.
