dlogin is a simple replacement 'login'. dlogin supports authentication via PAM (the Pluggable Authentication Modules library) or basic internal support for (shadow) passwords in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow (or equivalent databases, as supported by the C library).

It is mainly intended for home linux installations, and as such it has two special features:

* Most importantly, dlogin provides a simple way to give users who log in "locally" (ie through the virtual terminal) access to arbitrary unix groups (defined by the administrator). These groups can then allow such a user to perform actions such as shut down the system, use the audio devices, etc., without logging in as root.

* The second feature was written with the linux virtual terminals in mind. It allows a user who has already logged in on a local terminal to quickly log in to another terminal, without having to retype their username and password.

Both of these features have security implications.

What's New in This Release:

Support for PAM.
