A free tool to create disk-at-once and track-at-once CDs, DVDs and BluRay discs.
cdrtools (formerly known as cdrecord) is an open source and free command-line software that comprises of a set of utilities that allow users to create home-burned discs with a CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW or Blu-Ray recorder.

In includes the cdrecord utility for recording CD, DVD and BD discs, the readcd tool for reading CD, DVD and BD media with CD-clone features, the cdda2wav program for extracting tracks from Audio-CDs with paranoia support, as well as the mkisofs script for creating hybrid ISO9660, HFS or Joliet filesystems with additional Rock Ridge attributes.

In addition, the project includes isodebug for printing mkisofs debug information from media, isodump for dumping ISO-9660 media, isoinfo for analyzing and verifying Joliet, ISO/9660 and Rock-Ridge filesystems, isovfy for verifying structures of ISO-9660 filesystems, and rscsi for implementing a remote SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) daemon.

Features at a glance

cdrtools supports CD recorders from many different vendors. Supported features include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages.

The application includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD writers. It is comprised of the following tools: cdrecord, readcd, cdda2wav, mkisofs, isodebug, isodump, isoinfo, isovfy, and rscsi.

Command-line options and availability

Each of the included tools has its own command-line options that allow you to make use of the aforementioned features and functionality. To see these options, add the ‘--help’ attribute after the actual command (e.g. cdrecord --help).

The software is available for download only as tarballs (tar archives), which include the source code, which must be optimized and compiled prior to installation. Supported operating systems include GNU/Linux, BSD, Solaris, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows. cdrtools has been successfully on computers supporting either of the 32-bit or 64-bit hardware architectures.
