Ubuntu Make (formerly Ubuntu Developer Tools Center) is a completely free and open source software solution that comprises of various scripts enabling developers to easily and quickly set up a development environment under any Ubuntu Linux operating system.

Initially designed to help developers easily build Android applications under Ubuntu, the project can now be used to create a full-fledged developer environment for building any type of application, for both PC and mobile platforms. It supports various popular programming languages, such as Google Go.

Ubuntu Make will automatically download and install all the tools you need to create, design, develop and test applications. It will also install the latest Android SDK (Software Development Kit), so you can get started with Android development in minutes, without too much hassle.

The Android Studio and various other requirements will also be installed automatically by the Ubuntu Make software, so you won’t have to lift a finger. Ubuntu Make can also be used to develop games. The software will work successfully on both 64-bit and 32-bit flavors of the Ubuntu Linux distribution.

The easy way to install the Ubuntu Make command-line tools in your Ubuntu or Ubuntu-based GNU/Linux operating system, is to add the official PPA repository of the software by opening the Terminal app and running the ‘sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-desktop/ubuntu-make’ command.

Hit the Enter key when asked to install the PPA, then run the ‘sudo apt-get update’ command to updated the repositories. Then, install Ubuntu Make by running the ‘sudo apt-get install ubuntu-make’ command in the Terminal app.

To use Ubuntu Make, run the ‘umake’ command from the terminal emulator and follow the on-screen instructions. Add the ‘--help’ option to the ‘umake’ command (e.g. umake --help) to view more details about available command-line options.
