ROXTerm is an open source and free graphical software implemented in C/GTK+, based on the popular VTE library, and designed from the ground up to act as a terminal emulator application for the ROX desktop environment.
A feature-rich, tabbed terminal emulator
This Terminal app is very similar to the GNOME Terminal software and provides users wtih quicker start up times and a smaller footprint. ROXTerm is a tabbed terminal emulator app that can be easily used as a ROX application, as well as on other X11 environments.
In addition, ROXTerm can be easily configured via a separate applet that provides the configuration GUI (Graphical User Interface). It is aimed at power users and it’s compatible with all GNU/Linux operating systems, but especially distributed on lightweight ones that also use a minimalist window manager.
Getting started with ROXTerm
To install and use the ROXTerm application on your GNU/Linux distribution, we strongly suggest you to open your package manager and install the application from the main software repositories of your OS. This will save you a lot of time, but if you are a hardcore Linux user and you want to optimize the software for a specific architecture, use the source package provided on Softpedia.
Download the tarball (TAR archive), save it on a location of your choice, unpack it using the default archive manager utility, open a terminal emulator application, navigate to the location of the extracted archive files using the ‘cd’ command (e.g. cd /home/softpedia/roxterm-2.9.5) and type the ‘./mscript.py help or ‘python mscript.py help’ to learn how to use the maitch build system that is used for this application to configure and compile it.
After installation, you will be able to open ROXTerm from the main menu of your desktop environment. It will look just like the GNOME Terminal app and can be used immediately to run commands.
