The openSUSE Edu Li-f-e operating system is available for download for free, as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware architectures, 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64). They can be deployed to either DVD discs or USB thumb drives of 4GB or higher capacity.
Boot menu à la openSUSE Linux
The Live DVD boot menu of openSUSE Edu Li-f-e is identical in look and functionality with the one of the main openSUSE distribution, allowing the user to start the live system with normal configuration, start the installation directly, perform a memory diagnostic test, boot an existing operating system from the local drive, as well as to choose between the modern and classic versions of the GNOME desktop environment or the MATE interface.
Features the KDE, MATE, GNOME-Shell and GNOME Classic environments
While the operating system comes with three different graphical desktop environments (GNOME Classic, GNOME and MATE), by default it will boot straight into a KDE Plasma desktop, which presents users with a familiar and modern interface that allows them to be more productive while enjoying the beauty of the KDE interface.
Includes a wide variety of educational apps
A wide variety of educational apps are included in the openSUSE Edu Li-f-e, because, after all it’s been designed from the ground up to be installed and used on computers of various educational institutions.
Among the preinstalled educational software, we can mention Tux Paint drawing program, PCB Designer software for designing PCBs, Marble virtual globe, GCompris educational suite, Sugar environment emulator, Scilab scientific software, GeoGebra dynamic mathematics tool, Tux Math educational math game, gElemental periodic table, and many more.
