elektronikOS is an open source Linux operating system based on the widely used and lightweight Lubuntu Linux distribution, and built around the LXDE desktop environment. It is a distribution of Linux oriented towards electronic engineers who are looking for a free, fast and modern solution for

You can download this special Ubuntu flavor from its official website or via Softpedia (see the download link above) as a single, dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that will run on either 64-bit or 32-bit hardware platforms. Having almost 2GB in size, the ISO image must be written to a DVD disc or a USB flash drive of 2GB or higher capacity in order to boot it from the BIOS of a PC.

Among the boot options implemented in the Live DVD, we can mention the ability to start the live environment with default drivers or in safe graphics mode, start the installer directly to permanently install the distribution on a local drive, run a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first disk.

Besides the LXDE desktop environment, the distribution also includes three other graphical sessions based on the lightweight Openbox window manager, in combination with KDE and GNOME desktops. However, you will need to log in and choose a session before you can actually use the operating system.

Several useful and open source applications are included in elektronikOS, such as the powerful Eclipse IDE for C/C++ and Java development, FileZilla file transfer client, XAMPP Apache distribution, Gedit text editor, Mozilla Firefox web browser, LibreOffice office suite, and Qt SDK, which includes Qt Designer, Qt Creator, Qt Assistant and Qt Linguist.

Summing up, elektronikOS proves to be a stable, fast and low-on-resources operating system that supports a wide range of computer platforms and includes some of the best open source applications for electronic engineers, all on top of a powerful Ubuntu base.
