Xubuntu For Linux

Welcome to the Feisty Fawn edition of Xubuntu, an operating system derived from the widely used Ubuntu Linux distribution and built around the lightweight and traditional Xfce desktop environment. It has been designed from the ground up to be deployed on low-end systems.

Xubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) was officially announced by Canonical on April 19, 2007 and supported with security patches and software updates until October 19, 2008. It is available for download as Desktop CDs and Alternate CDS, supporting the 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64) hardware platforms.

The Live Desktop CD comes with a standard boot loader from where the user can start or install Xubuntu, start the operating system in safe graphics mode, install the distribution with a drive update CD, run a memory (RAM) test, check the CD for defects, and boot an existing OS from the first disk drive.

The Xfce desktop environment offered in this Xubuntu release provides users with a traditional and fast graphical session that uses a two-panel layout, allowing the user to quickly launch applications from the upper panel and interact with running programs from the bottom panel.

Default applications include the Gaim multi-protocol instant messenger, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, gxine media player, GIMP image editor, GQview image viewer, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, and Synaptic Package Manager.

It comes with various useful utilities like the GParted disk partition editor, Bulk Rename renaming utility, Orage calendar app, Evince document viewer, Mousepad text editor, Thunar file manager, Xarchiver archive manager, Xfburn CD/DVD burning tool, and Xfce Terminal terminal emulator.

This Xubuntu release should be used only for historical purposes, as it is no longer supported by Canonical with general bugfixes and software updates.
