Xin For Linux

Xin is a free distribution of Linux built from scratch and designed to be used as a home appliance or installed on a computer that will act as a media center device. It is based on the Linux kernel and open source technologies.

The distro aims to bring a new Linux concept. It is available for download as a minimal Live CD ISO image that will fit perfectly on a Mini CD disc. By default, it is bootable on computers supporting either the 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.

From the Live CD boot menu, the user can just press the Enter key to boot the live system, press the ESC key to enter a FreeDOS environment, or press the TAB key to modify boot parameters.

Among many other abilities, the Xin operating system can act as a media center system or a remote media player supporting playback of multiple audio and video files, drag-and-drop URLs and playlists. It can also be used as a remote desktop display.

Another interesting feature is the inclusion of a dozen of hardware drivers, which allow the user to modify the processor’s speed, tune the chipset or modify screen resolution before the operating system boots.

Being designed from the offset to run entirely in live mode, the distro requires no disk drive and it is fully controllable from a Windows operating system, such as Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.

The best part of the Xin distribution is that it can be easily deployed on almost any device, either it is a laptop, desktop computer, server system or Apple computers.
