Wakawa Openbox For Linux

Wakawa Openbox is an open source, free and highly flexible Linux-based operating system built around the lightweight Openbox window manager and based on the testing branch of Debian GNU/Linux Sid.

Just like the MATE edition, this flavor is distributed as Live DVD ISO images of approximately 1.5G in size each, engineered to support both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms. The user must write these ISO images to USB flash drives or DVD discs in order to boot them from the BIOS of a computer.

Once again, the boot menu is identical with the one found on the MATE edition of Wakawa, allowing the user to start the live environment with default boot options or in safe graphics mode, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local disk drive.

As its name suggests, Wakawa Openbox uses the lightweight Openbox window manager as its default and only desktop environment. It is comprised of a a bottom taskbar for interacting with running programs and a top panel for launching applications with minimal effort. To cycle between virtual workspaces, simply use the mouse wheel on the desktop.

The distro includes top-notch open source applications, among which we can mention the Chromium and Iceweasel web browsers, LibreOffice office suite, VLC Media Player, Clementine and Audaciou audio players, XChat IRC client, GIMP image editor, Audacity audio editor and Synaptic Package Manager.

During our tests, the Openbox edition of Wakawa proved to use fewer resources than the MATE flavor of this Debian-based OS, which means that it is stable as a rock and allows users to effortlessly install Debian packages using the Synaptic Package Manager application.
