Ultimate Edition 4.3
As its name suggests, it is designed from the ground up to provide users with a large collection of applications, themes, icons, backgrounds, out-of-the-box support for multimedia files, and any other program requested by the community.
Distributed as 64-bit Live DVD
The project’s main goal is to provide users with a comprehensive remix of Ubuntu (usually based on the latest stable release). It’s available for download as a Live DVD ISO image, supported only on the 64-bit hardware platform.
The boot prompt of the Live DVDs will allow users to start an existing operating system installed on the first disk, run a memory test, rescue a broken OS, as well as to install the operating system using regular, expert and command-line expert methods.
Comes pre-loaded with a wide variety of open-source applications
Among the included applications, we can mention VLC Media Player, Amarok music player, Wine Windows emulation, MPlayer/Mencoder video player and encoder, as well as K9Copy, Dvdrip, DeVeDE and DVD Shrink DVD copying software.
gFTP will take care of all your file transfer needs, KVIrc allows users to connect to IRC channels to talk with their friends, EasyTag can be used to edit MP3 tags, Inkscape to draw 2D vector graphics, as well as Screem, Quanta Plus and Bluefish for editing HTML files.
Ultimate Edition also comes with the Qemu virtualization software, Avidemux video editor, Frostwire and Amule P2P clients, Ajunta IDE programming environment, Qcad CAD tool, Glade graphical interface designer, Audacity audio editor, Aria2 download manager, and Bum boot-up manager.
In addition, it includes the KolourPaint digital painting software, GnuCash financial application, Kino video editor, ISO Master ISO editor, Ghex Hex editor, Istanbul live screen capture tool, Sum startup manager, Gourmet recipe manager, and Graveman and Brasero CD/DVD burning apps.
Ultimate Edition become popular due to its large user base, exclusive packages, and extra application. Or, as many would say, it’s what Ubuntu should have been from the get-go.

- Ultimate Edition 4.3 was built from the ground up debootstrapped from the Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Thar tree using Tmosb (TheeMahn’s Operating System Builder) which is also included in this release. This release is a Long Term Supported (LTS) release, supported until the year 2019. This release is most certainly worthy of the Ultimate Edition title. I personally hate KDE, and found it very visually attractive in all its “Wobbly Windowness” that I miss from the Mate desktop environment. I must admit I do miss the eyecandy that it provides off the rip. I have included many, many tools I am constructing that reside under the hood of virtually all Ultimate Edition releases, most newer and upgraded.
- I spared no expense in bundled, comprehensive selection of applications. Need something that is not there? I did strip a chunk of cutting edge repositories from Ultimate Edition 4.3 in the quest to maintain stability, however they are still there just not enabled. Freedom of choice, if you so desire you can enable them. Stability, may or may not go out the window. This is your Operating system, I feel it is your choice and have set it that way appropriately.
